Useful
sites for submitting your web site
|
.
- Google
is currently the search engine of choice for most people.
You stand a better chance if you submit your site directly
to the Netscape
Open Directory Project.
- Yahoo
is probably the best known web directory, and the hardest
to get a listing in. You can submit a site for free with
no guarantees, or pay £199 (and there are still no
guarantees).
- HotBot
is an open hierarchical Web directory, organized by subject.
Before you submit your site, find the appropriate category
for it and then click "Add URL." You can also get information
on HotBot's other services at this site.
- OneKey
provides the largest database of kid-safe sites. Select
the relevant OneKey category from the list and then fill
out the online form to submit your URL.
- Lycos
is unusual in that it is both a search engine and a directory.
You choose whether you want a free submission, or whether
you want to pay (it can be up to £2780!). There are
no guarantees for the free service. (And the last time I
clicked the "submit your site" link, the page
wasn't found.)
- Snap.com
Submitting your URL to this directory is free and is now
part of the NBCi and InfoSpace directories; visit the
submission instruction page.
- Alternatively,
you can use an automatic submission tool like ScrubTheWeb
or Addme.
These can be useful, but manual submissions are best for
the most important search engines.
